This is what my poor little baby James is going to have to wear :( We (his PT, me, and Joe..the guy who does the "banding" aka...baby helmets) have been going back and forth for quite some time on what to do. He has had quite a bad case of torticollis since birth. It is basically a shortening of the neck muscle. It usually causes plagiocephaly which is what Joe had which is why HE had the helmet. It basically reshapes the head. "Problem" with James, is his head isn't that bad. It's a little flat. But all the scans say he only has 1/8 of an inch of misshaped head. Which is great!!! Except, then insurance won't pay for the banding. A lot of times the banding will help with torticollis because it forces them to use the muscles he needs to in order to correct it.
We do all sorts of different excercicises to try and stretch and strengthen it. Tried a chiropractor, that just hurt my heart. We've "taped" his shoulder. But this is our last resort. What sucks is WE have to pay for it and " hope" our insurance will reimburse us!! Not to mention it doesn't look very comfy either. Well at least it'll only be a few hours a day he has to wear it.
